Hello dear community,
Today we want to explain how you can properly maintain your PlayStation or Xbox controller to achieve the longest possible durability.
Since the PS4 and Xbox One controllers, stick drift has become very popular. A problem where the analog stick autonomously moves during gameplay, for example pulling in one direction by itself.
But how do you prevent this with the right care and handling?
It is no secret that a controller is a wear part, but its lifespan can be extended many times over. For this, we have the following tips for you:
1. Keep your controller clean at all times:
The most common cause of stick drift or trigger problems is dust or dirt inside the controller or thumbstick units.
As controller modders, we regularly find a lot of dust, pet hair, food residues, or even tobacco crumbs inside the controllers.
Clean your controller regularly. For this, a microfiber cloth and glass cleaner work optimally.
When not in use, ideally keep it in a controller bag or in a dust-free place.

Avoid greasy or crumbly snacks while using the controller.
Crumbs in the analog stick units can quickly mean the end of your gaming fun. Over time, they cause stick drift or even a sticking, squeaking stick. In this case, the stick unit must be replaced.
2. Handle your controller gently:
Especially us men often know this—sometimes a too strong grip is just hard to control.
However, it’s advisable to particularly handle our controllers carefully and with consideration. Only this way can we achieve the longest possible lifespan.

Rough use of the controller is the number one cause of premature wear and damage. Excessive pressure mainly affects mechanical parts, which are increasingly present in PS5 or Xbox Series X controllers.
Consequences of too much pressure or even violent use can be:
- The click sound in the thumbsticks (L3, R3 button) is lost
- The analog sticks become loose and the rubber on the sticks wears out faster
- The adaptive triggers on the PlayStation 5 controllers no longer respond correctly

If you have a custom controller from manufacturers like OMGN, Scuf, King, or Aim Controller, rough use can cause the following problems.
- The click sound of paddles, smart bumpers, or smart triggers is lost
- The paddles, smart bumpers or smart triggers no longer respond correctly
3. Care for your battery:
To achieve the longest possible battery lifespan, we recommend not charging your controller only after it has shut off by itself. Listen to your console and charge as soon as low battery notification appears.
We hope we were able to help you with our tips and show you how you can enjoy your PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One & Series X controller longer in the future. Feel free to share your experiences in the comments!
